| Welcome to our Pre-School University
• Do you want the best for your preschooler? Let us tell you a little about our Academy ... With her strong background in teaching kindergarten through 3rd grades in public school, Alma Torello, with a Masters degree in early childhood education and Montessori certification, and Rudy, a builder/developer with an MBA in business and a Montessori teacher certification embarked on this journey armed with the knowledge and education they had accumulated over the years. Through research, observation and visiting other Montessori schools from Connecticut to Virginia, their education and knowledge of the Montessori philosophy was clarified. Our Academy was a pioneering school, in that it was the first in it's area to offer both the Montessori teaching method AND a traditional approach to education. How Did It Begin?
In 1907 Dr. Montessori started a school in Rome, Italy and called it "A Children's House" and based the program on her observation that young children learn best in a "homelike" setting filled with developmentally appropriate materials that provide experiences contributing to the growth of self motivated, independent learners. She carried her message throughout the world, and her method became international by the 1950's. The Montessori Method is integrated in our public school system today. What Makes Montessori Education Unique? On an academic level Montessori helps students attain skills that allow them to become independent functioning adults and lifelong learners. Montessori students become self directed, composed, confident, self disciplined and therefore successful. Montessori students love to learn. They develop organizational skills and enjoy coming to school whereby each day they develop a new skill. Today's School for Tomorrow's Leaders Larry Page and Sergey Grin, Founders of Google.com; Jeff Bezos of Amazon.com; and many others credit their Montessori Education for much of their success.
On the Barbara Walters ABC-TV Special "The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2004" Larry Page and Sergey Brin, founders of the popular internet search engine Google, credited their years as Montessori students as a major factor behind their success. Having been friends since childhood, when Barbara Walters asked if the fact that their parents were college professors was a factor behind their success, they said no, that it was their going to a Montessori school where they learned to be self-directed and self-starters. They said that Montessori education allowed them to learn to think for themselves and gave them freedom to pursue their own interests. Montessori Supporters: It is quite an interesting collection of people throughout history who have gone to Montessori schools, sent their children to Montessori schools, or supported this method in education in one way or another. The short list includes: • Alice Waters
